Parasympathetic Nervous System(PNS)

The autonomic nervous system has two branches: the sympathetic nervous system(SNS) and the parasympathetic nervous system(PNS). The sympathetic nervous system is responsible for the body's "fight or flight" response, while parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for the body's relax "rest and digest" response.

The parasympathetic nervous system is a crucial regulator of various physiological systems in the body. It is activated during times of rest and relaxation and during a quality therapeutic massage. When activated, it helps to slow down heart rate, decrease blood pressure, and increase digestion through the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. One of its primary functions is to regulate digestion by stimulating the production of digestive enzymes and increasing blood flow to the digestive organs. Overall, the parasympathetic nervous system plays a vital role in maintaining homeostasis and ensuring that the body is functioning optimally. The PNS can be activated through various relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, meditation, yoga and massage therapy just to name a few.. Regular exercise and a healthy diet can also help to promote balance within the autonomic nervous system.
